A floor covering that suits all needs

Luxury vinyl tiles or planks (short LVTs) are made of modern vinyl and therefore particularly hard-wearing. This means they can also be used without problems in rooms subject to high wear and tear such as bathrooms and hobby rooms. In this article, our expert explains the various benefits of vinyl flooring and what you should pay attention to when installing it.

Tip 1: A sound basis for every room

Bathrooms have become a “wellness oasis” where people like to spend quite some time – much more than in the past. Accordingly, the floor must not only be particularly robust and easy to maintain but should also look good. Vinyl flooring is such an all-rounder and is just as water-repellent as classic ceramic tiles. But beware: Even vinyl flooring requires expert sealing when used in wet rooms! In hobby rooms, there’s always the danger of tools or other utensils dropping and damaging the floor. Thanks to its smooth and hard-wearing surface, vinyl flooring is able to withstand everyday wear and tear. No scratches, no dents, and the dirt is wiped off in no time. Unlike stone floors, vinyl flooring is soft, elastic and therefore offers higher walking comfort (easier on the joints). This also makes it the perfect choice for home gyms.

Tip 2: Bonded flooring lasts longer

Whether in the bathroom or hobby room: loose lay is not a good idea for vinyl flooring. It can shift or buckle, quickly becoming a trip hazard. Right from the start, it’s therefore advisable to bond the vinyl flooring over the entire surface of the room to produce a firm bond with the subfloor. This also minimizes the noise caused by walking on the floor, whereas floating installation tends to produce a crackling or smacking sound. Before applying the adhesive, however, the subfloor must be dry and completely level. Otherwise, moisture will later collect under the flooring and cause the development of mold.

Tip 3: Only use materials that are healthy for your home

In order to ensure healthy living, always take a close look at the packaging of the adhesive or primer. If it carries the EMICODE® quality seal, the product is “clean” (i.e. free of pollutants) and therefore not harmful to health. Building materials that have been awarded the EC1 seal are very low in emissions and thus absolutely healthy for living. The products are tested by independent laboratories using the test chamber method. Long-term compliance with the predefined emission limits is ensured by regular unannounced spot checks.
