Parquet varnishes ensure long-lasting protection

Parquet floors need care and protection in order to preserve their shine and beauty. After installation, the right surface treatment is of crucial importance. Professional floor layers recommend sealing the floor. Parquet varnishes are ideally suited for this purpose. Applied in several coats, they provide the best protection, because they close the pores of the wood and cover the surface like a protective skin. But the application of a varnish also has other advantages.

Tip 1: Varnished parquet is durable and easy to clean

Neither parquet floors nor floorboards like the penetration of water or dirt. For this reason, it is highly recommended to apply a protective layer with the help of suitable parquet varnishes. Usually, one- or two-component varnishes are used for surface treatment in living areas, because they are particularly durable and abrasion-resistant. Sealed or varnished parquet is also easier to clean. In most cases, a damp cloth is sufficient.

Tip 2: Use water-based varnishes

High-quality water-based varnishes are odorless and harmless to human health. The very low solvent content (less than 8 percent) only serves as a binder which, just like water, evaporates after application. Afterwards, only the desired sealing coat remains. In the end, water-based varnishes are just as effective as solvent-based solutions. In addition, the risk of fire is virtually eliminated and odor development is next to zero.

Tip 3: Pay attention to healthy materials in your home

Be careful: Parquet varnishes with a low solvent content are not automatically free of harmful substances. Good indicators of low-emission building products are the quality seals visible on the packaging, for example the EMICODE®. This renowned seal is awarded to the world’s least polluting parquet varnishes, levelling and filling compounds, primers, tile adhesives and grouts, silicone sealants and many other building products. The tests are carried out by independent laboratories. Regular spot checks ensure long-term compliance with the predefined limit values.
